Canyon Condors is a newly established Special Olympics sports team for all athletes aged 8 and above located on the west side of Greater Salt Lake area. We currently provide opportunities for athletes in Dance, Basketball, and Flag Football. Our three founders are Wendy Merrell, Abby Evans, and Graycee Enger.

Wendy Merrell has been working with children of all ages for almost 30 years and has been coaching Special Olympics for the past 5 years. She has been dancing for over 50 years and coaching basketball for special needs individuals for the past 25 years. Some of her hobbies include playing the piano, listening to music, and watching movies. Wendy’s greatest joy is making connections and helping athletes of all abilities to learn and grow. As C.S. Lewis said, “You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.”

Abby Evans is newer to Special Olympics, but not new to working with children and advocating for others. She has been dancing competitively for the past 14 years. For 4 years Abby has shared her passion for dance and gymnastics as a teacher. She is currently attending school to become an occupational therapist. Abby believes that everyone can use a little more love and kindness because as Brad Meltzer once said, “Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be kind. Always.”

Graycee Enger is so excited to be a part of the Condors. She is currently working toward becoming an ASL interpreter while working as a respite provider—supporting and caring for individuals and families is something she is really passionate about. Graycee believes that connection, patience, and joy make all the difference, both on and off the field; as her favorite Disney character Winnie the Pooh says, “You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.” She loves all things Norway and enjoys all kinds of music.
